L’ Orchestra Jazz Columbia che venne formata all’inizio del gennaio 1931 e che, quasi immediatamente iniziò ad incidere, fece il suo debutto in pubblico al Giardino dell’Hotel Diana di Milano la sera del 2 luglio, quando erano già in circolazione ben 31 dischi incisi dall’orchestra. I dischi erano stati incisi nel corso di dieci sedute negli studi milanesi della Columbia, fra il gennaio e l’8 giugno 1931. L’Orchestra Jazz Columbia, diretta da Edoardo De Risi può essere considerata, assieme al Jazz Sinfonico Ferracioli, la prima formazione a grande organico del giovane jazz italiano

When the ORCHESTRA JAZZ COLUMBIA, formed on january 1931, started to play in public the evening of the 2nd july 1931, at the Hotel Diana’s Gardens in Milan, there were already into circulation as many as 31 records recorded by the Orchestra. The records had been recorded in the course of ten recording sessions at the Columbia studios between january and june 8th, 1931. The ORCHESTRA JAZZ COLUMBIA, directed by Edoardo De Risi, can be considered, together with the JAZZ SINFONICO FERRACIOLI, the first big band of the young italian jazz.
